Job Summary: This role is part of the Digital Marketing department at Nintendo of America (NOA) and aids in the day-to-day development and support of new and existing backend services for Nintendo.com. Contributes to the development of back-end services and applications by writing clean, secure, and testable code under the guidance of more senior engineers. Applies foundational software engineering principles and best practices to build functionality that meets defined requirements and supports team goals. This is a 7-month contract position. Tech stack includes – GraphQL, JavaScript, Node.js, etc.
Description of Duties:
- Writes secure, readable, and maintainable server-side code for small to moderately scoped features using existing procedures and standards.
- Participates in all phases of the software development life cycle (planning, coding, testing, launching), with a primary focus on coding, testing and debugging.
- Builds and consumes GraphQL APIs and helps maintain and enhance existing data structures and services.
- Writes and executes unit and integration tests to validate functionality and helps troubleshoot and resolve defects.
- Research, evaluates and analyzes technical and design requirements under direction from more senior roles.
- Works with relational databases, writing basic queries and supporting data access layers.
- Participate in code reviews to learn team standards, receive feedback and improve code quality.
- Documents technology changes through appropriate change control and maintains clear technical notes and documentation.
- Provides support and troubleshooting for previously developed solutions with guidance as needed.
- Participates in cross-functional discussions and communicates information clearly, both written and verbally, to members of the development team.
Summary of Requirements:
- Minimum of 1-2 years of related experience (including internships, co-ops or academic projects) in software or backend development.
- Foundational proficiency in JavaScript and/or GraphQL, ability to write code that is functional and testable.
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., git) and collaborative development workflows.
- Basic understanding of relational databases (MySQL)
- Exposure to building or consuming web services and APIs (REST and/or GraphQL)
- Understanding of core software concepts such as data structures, algorithms and the software development life cycle.
- Familiarity with cloud-based platforms and services (AWS) is a plus.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn, take direction and apply feedback from more senior engineers.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Industrial Engineering or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Expereinve with CI/CD pipeline tools such as GiHub Actions a plus
- Bilingual Japanese a plus but not required

This position is hybrid in Redmond, WA. Hybrid positions require regular onsite work following the schedule and guidelines for their division. This position is not open to fully remote status at this time. Relocation assistance is not available for this role.
This contract position includes the base pay range listed below and is eligible for benefits through the employing agency.
